Campaign: Geology professor starts scholarship
Amy Kunst, an earth sciences
education student, is the first recipient of a scholarship started by
geology professor Steve Yurkovich for geology and earth sciences

WCU extends deadline for tuition deposits to Aug. 1
Western Carolina
Universitys Office of Admission has extended the tuition deposit
deadline for the 2008 fall semester until Aug. 1 in response to concerns
expressed by prospective freshmen and their parents in the face of an
economic downturn that threatens to drag on into the summer.
WCU's online enrollment goes up with gas prices
Gas prices are soaring, and so is enrollment in academic programs offered online by Western Carolina University.

More than 400 participants
are expected on the campus of Western Carolina University during the
25th anniversary of the Cullowhee Conference: Native Plants in the
Landscape, to be held Wednesday, July 23, through Saturday, July 26.
WCU to host annual Mountain Art Festival July 5-6

will host the 19th annual Mountain Artisans Summertime Fine Art and
Craft Show in the Ramsey Regional Activity Center on Saturday, July 5,
and Sunday, July 6.
Summer Arts Festival to highlight talent of state's far western counties

will provide a showcase for the artists and young musicians of the
states westernmost counties with the inaugural Summer Arts Festival, a
free event beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at the Fine and
Performing Arts Center on Westerns campus.
WCU political science student named delegate to Democratic convention

student William Styles will get a first-hand look at the political
process above and beyond what he is learning in the classroom as a
senior majoring in political science when he attends the Democratic
National Convention in August.
